He has worked as a commercial photographer since 1987 specializing in still life work for clients including Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Magazine, Houghton-Mifflin, Ligature, Lipman-Hearne, Pivot Design, Perolio Inc., Three Communication Design, Aaron Kramer Design, Urban Artifacts, Ellen Carey, Joseloff Gallery, and World Book Encyclopedia, Inc. In his fine art work Attas combines photography, sculpture and sound. His installations examine the nature of the universe(s). His critically acclaimed experimental works include a series of performances, Ions in the Ether, in which photographically etched zinc plates were dissolved in acid copper plating their negatives in a reaction reminiscent of the alchemists and their desire to turn simple elements into gold. He has worked extensively with representational and abstract photography, as well as unique experimental photograms and metal photogramic sculptures. His work within the medium of the photogram has been recognized as highly original challenging our existing notions of the photograph. His work has been exhibited nationally and he is the recipient of numerous awards and grants from such significant critics and artists as Andy Grundberg, Merry A. Foresta and the Starn Twins. |
